Research on creating an Indie studio.

Our task was to look into how much it could potentially cost to set up and maintain an independent game studio.

A few of the things that would be required are:

  • £4,440.00 3ds
  • £246 Mudbox
  • £3810.64 PCs
  • £44.46 Photoshop
  • £4200 office
  • £117450 programmer for 3 years
  • £12 chairs

All of these add up to a hefty price, and we worked out that if we were developing a game for 3 years with 4 employees, we would need approximately £130203.10

Of course, we also need electricity and food, and we worked out that we would need:
£3944.67 For power.
£499 for a vending machine.

The office we chose was High Water House, Malpas Road, Truro, Cornwall – Because it was affordable and not too far away

It was interesting to see actually how much it all added up to, so that raises a few questions such as how we get that kind of money. One method would be to contact a publisher and pledge the idea. For example if we were developing a mobile game then Chillingo would be a good place to start.
